Eight arrested after burglary raids in Northampton

Half a dozen men and two boys have appeared in court on burglary charges after a series of raids were made in Northampton.

Local police took action against suspected local burglars by conducting raids on 13 properties on 10th July. Twelve people were formally taken into custody on burglary and drugs charges in the operation, which saw 80 police officers involved.

Police today released a statement saying that a quantity of illegal substances had been found, along with several items of stolen property – all of which were seized by offices as the raids were being conducted.

Last week, eight Northampton males – two of whom were aged 14 and 16 – appeared at Northampton Magistrates Court, where various charges were handed down. These included conspiracy to commit burglary with intent to steal, possession with intent to supply a controlled drug and handling stolen goods.

Patrick McMonigle, 23, Curtis Bryant, 22 and Jeffery George, 42, were all remanded in custody – the first two for conspiracy to commit burglary and the latter for conspiracy to commit burglary and possession with intent to supply.

Stuart Neal, 25, Callum Gordon, 23, and John Lavelle, 21 were all charged with conspiracy to commit burglary with intent to steal, but were released on bail.

The two teens were charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and the 16 year old was also charged with possession of a controlled drug.

Homeowners are advised to increase the security of their homes, with measure such as burglar alarms and security shutters, to prevent becoming victims of similar crimes.
