Why businesses reinforce existing security measures with steel doors

If you have walked around your local high street recently, you may have noticed that a lot of shops, supermarkets, banks, and office buildings now use steel security doors on their premises. You may be wondering why they do this; the answer, of course, is that they do it to beef up their security. Although most businesses have security cameras and sophisticated alarms in place, they still find steel security doors very useful in deterring crime and preventing burglars from stealing their goods.

Prevent entry

Due to the fact that steel doors are so strong, they are perfect for protecting business premises. All of the fixtures and fitting which are used with steel doors are extremely strong too, and this makes steel doors difficult to penetrate. Any burglars or ram raiders who try to break through a steel door will likely find the task so difficult, that they’re caught before they gain entry – especially if steel doors are used in conjunction with silent alarms and CCTV.

Burglar alarms and CCTV are all fine and well, but they only increase the chances of catching the offenders, whereas good steel doors can actually stop them in their tracks. This is much better for the business than having a burglar get inside where they can cause damage and steal cash and stock. This is, perhaps, the main reason why so many businesses reinforce existing security measures with steel doors, but it is not the only one.

Of course, most businesses that use steel doors hope it will never get as far as an attempted break-in, because quality steel security doors act as a brilliant deterrent against crime. It is fair to say that most thieves are quite lazy and fearful of being caught, and this means that they will take the path of least resistance. If they are faced with the choice of breaking into a shop that has a normal wooden door and a shop which has beefed up its security with galvanised steel doors, they will almost certainly go for the former – which is one of the main reasons why it is common for businesses to choose steel doors.

Having criminals caught in the act is great – but avoiding an incident altogether is arguably the better option.

Steel security doors are much more durable than wooden or UPVC doors. Doors which succumb to the elements and begin to deteriorate quickly are much less safe than those which do not. A deteriorating door is much easier to kick down, or break-in through than one which is in peak condition. It will also last much longer, and this means business owners will not have to spend so much on maintenance and repair.

So, there you have it – three of the top reasons why more businesses are choosing to install steel doors alongside some of their more hi-tech security measures. It really is amazing how something so simple can make such a big difference to the security of a business.
